Position Summary: The Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor is responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the Public Safety Department's communication center. The Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor receives, evaluates, prioritizes, and directs all incoming requests of the campus community, general public, and the staff of the department. This position is also responsible for the timely dissemination of emergency messages as they pertain to the safety of the Campus during events of natural disaster, medical emergencies, hazardous material threats, and in-progress or delayed reporting of criminal behavior. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide supervision, direction and training to all full-time and part-time Dispatchers.
  • Act as initial point of contact for all inquiries regarding Public Safety. Assist students, staff and the public in regard to Public Safety procedures and processes. Refer specific concerns or questions to specialized areas.
  • Independently evaluate each request/inquiry received and determine the proper response. Carries out such response by dispatching the proper Public Safety staff supported by the proper emergency public safety service as needed.
  • Act as system administrator for the Electronic Access Control System, with responsibility to maintain, analyze, train users and resolve software problems.
  • Issue and program photo identification cards, prox cards and fobs.
  • Assist the Chief of Public Safety and Emergency Management with compliance of the Campus Safety and Security Act to accurately document all calls and requests for service.
  • Manage the accurate collection, storage and disposal of lost and found property.
  • Process and maintain requests for keys and Access Control devises and in turn issue all items to the proper College staff member as requested. Collect and document the return of such devices in an accurate manner.
  • Develop the monthly work schedule for all part-time Dispatchers and forward to Chief of Public Safety for approval.
  • Monitor, maintain and manage databases such as daily unlock schedule, emergency alert systems and applications.
  • Operate and manage department's Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) Terminal.
  • Act as the LEIN TAC and LASSO for the department.
  • Process and maintain records pertaining to the enforcement of parking regulations on campus.
  • Assist, develop and conduct training for all Dispatching staff.
  • Provide surveillance of College assets through video monitoring.
Related Duties:
  • Produce reports pertaining to the operations of the communications center.
  • Participate on the selection committee for new Public Safety Dispatch personnel.
  • Evaluates all part-time and full-time Dispatch staff.
  • Conducts investigations of incidents which may result in the discipline of subordinates; issues discipline or makes effective recommendation of discipline, as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Chief and Deputy Chief of Public Safety and Emergency Management.
  • Duties as assigned.
Hours/Schedule: Typically reports Monday through Friday during day shift. However, may be required to work a variety of shifts and days within a 24-hour period, seven (7) days per week as agency is 24/7 operation; including unexpected overtime hours. Work Environment & Physical Demands: May be required to respond to campus in an emergency situation during off-duty time periods. Required to wear a uniform. Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, Safety, or related field OR four (4) years full-time work experience OR the equivalent combination of education and work experience as determined by College administration.
  • Previous experience with electronic security/fire systems required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with all levels of College personnel and students.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate the standard department office computer and its associated software programs as well as word processing, spreadsheet, and database software (Microsoft Office) and e-mail.
  • Ability to interview persons requesting service in a manner that solicits all pertinent information regarding the situation being reported, with the ability to communicate that information to staff personnel in the field.
  • Ability to appropriately handle confidential material and information.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize his/her work responsibilities.
  • Ability to follow complex directions, record information, and accurately communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Must be fingerprinted and pass a background check.
Preferred Qualifications: Additional Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous supervisory and dispatching experience.
  • Basic Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) Operator experience.
  • CLEMIS experience.
